Just returned from paying my respects to Bram Stoker on the 100th anniversary of his death... now on to think about Goth girls as commodity before my paper for the Gender and Women's Studies research seminar next week...
Ivan Phillips Now I wonder, is that happy Goth girls as commodity or the more lugubrious kind?
Catherine Spooner Happy ones. :)
Just got back from one Bram Stoker Centenary event in Hull and now getting ready for another in London this weekend. Poor man's death was overshadowed by the Titanic and now it's happening all over again with his Centenary...

This week I'm talking to the girls at Casterton School about my current project (and their A-level texts). Wonder what they'll make of Monster High?
I'm going to Haworth this week to talk about Contemporary Gothic at the Bronte Museum... really looking forward to soaking up the Gothic atmosphere which given the weather here in Lancaster right now, should be appropriately 'wuthering'.
can't wait to get my copy of David Punter's New Companion to Gothic... looks fantastic.
The deadline's passed for Capturing Witches 2012 but we can still consider a few more proposals if you get them in quickly...
Deadline approaching for our CFP for Capturing Witches: Histories, Stories, Images: 400 Years of the Lancashire Witches. All aspects of witchcraft from classical civilization to neo-paganism warmly welcome! More info at: http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/eurolang/activities/973/
Just got back from Vampires: Myths of the Past and the Future at the University of London. Particularly enjoyed keynotes by Ken Gelder and Stacey Abbott, Maria Mellins's paper on Fangtasia London, and ducking out to go see 'Miracles and Charms' at the Wellcome Institute.
Looking forward to Ken Gelder's paper on vampire cinema at Lancaster next week!
I've broken my elbow... so research is progressing very slowly...
Enjoyed meeting Italian students and academics at Synapsis at the University of Bologna this week - held in a castle that used to belong to the Borgias.
Just got back from International Gothic Association conference at Heidelberg - really great to catch up with everyone.
Getting ready for Alien Nation at Northumbria on Wednesday - rewatching all of The Mighty Boosh in preparation for my paper.
Enjoyed speaking at the ICA this weekend - great programme of talks and screenings on Walpole's legacy in contemporary gothic curated by Gilda Williams.
