I'm doing my PhD research on dialect contact in Azerbaijani Language in Iran focusing on the 1ppl suffix variation. Azerbaijani language doesn't have any official status in Iran and is not cultivated either. In this research, in fact, I'm exploring the contact situation in a roofless condition (with 17 million speakers!). Therefore, I'm expecting to deal with a folk oriented (overtly non-institutionalised) force of identity and attitudes effect in my research site based in Tabriz.
The key words are: Accommodation Theory, Dialect Convergence & Divergence, In-migration, Indexicality, Folk linguistics, Language Attitudes, Identity.
I'm currently busy with working on my upgrade(confirmation) paper.
