About

My intellectual homes are (critical) animal studies, gender studies, environmental sociology, science and technology studies and sociological theory. However I also like to question the idea of home and make important inter or post-disciplinary links. For the last few years I have been most concerned around the sociological and ethical questions raised by animal agricultural biotechnology. I'm increasingly interested in the global political economy of food; theories and practices of critical posthumanism, as well as rejoining earlier interests in intersectionality theory, including but not limited to theories of ecofeminism. I have also written around critical revisions of mainstream bioethics. I also have long standing interests in the sociology of the body.

I would presently love to work with others on issues intersecting food, sustainability and gender so do feel free to contact me. I am open to your ideas for collaboration.

My first book, entitled 'Animals as Biotechnology - Ethics, Sustainability and Critical Animal Studies' was published in late 2010. See http://www.earthscan.co.uk/?tabid=102349&v=207

My academic interests are informed by a commitment to critical thinking, a reflexivity toward the relationships between academia and activism, and a commitment to a posthumanist politics of intersectionality.

I also teach on subjects as diverse as genomics and society, animal studies, gender, sexuality and masculinities.
