About

I have been working as a consultant to the church in the UK and Europe for 37 years and currently co-direct a small charity that advises the church on negotiating social change. For the last fifteen years much of the focus of my work has been reconciliation between gender, generation and nation, and the role of the church as a reconciling community.
Seven years ago it became clear to me that there was a pressing need to interrogate the interface between church and empire in the history of the West and I was accepted as a PhD postgraduate at Lancaster where I studied with the supervision of the late Paul Fletcher and subsequently Gavin Hyman.
My thesis was accepted in June 2011, and as well as pursuing my consultative role to the church I now teach two undergraduate seminars in Ethics, Theology and Religion.
As well as the PhD in Religious Studies I have a master’s degree in International Literature and Society 1910-45. I have authored or co-authored several books, mainly geared within the Pentecostal-Charismatic sub-culture, which has been the primary context of my Christian ministry to date, the best known of which are The Kingdom Factor (Marshall Pickering 1985), The Sins of the Fathers (with Brian Mills; Sovereign World 1999) and Target Europe (with my wife Sue Mitchell; Sovereign World 2001). I am married with two married adult sons and three grandchildren.
I am a member of the Society for the Study of Theology.
